Youth Crossroads’ Project Peace is an intensive 90-day violence prevention program for 11-24-year-olds in Berwyn, Cicero, and surrounding communities who are at-risk of being impacted by violence or becoming involved in the justice/legal system
Who is eligible for Project Peace?
11-24-year-olds in Berwyn, Cicero and surrounding communities who:
- Have been/are at-risk of being impacted by gun violence, as victim or perpetrator
- Have current or past legal involvement with the police, probation, or ordinance court
- Have a parent or sibling who is/was incarcerated
- Are a recent victim or friend/family member of a victim of gun violence
- Engage in high-risk behaviors such as gangs, physical or verbal aggression (violence), carry weapons, or using drugs Have behavioral problems at home, in school, or in the community
- Are frequently suspended from school for fighting, verbal arguments, and gang related behaviors
Our services:
Coaching: A behavior-focused service that combines mentoring and skill building while helping youth build resiliency. Our coaches are experienced in helping youth meet probation requirements, set and work toward goals, find positive ways to express their emotions and engage with others/their community, and increase self-esteem and hope for a healthy future.
Case management: Participants and their families are offered a needs assessment and then referred to appropriate resources and programs.
Therapy: Mental health therapy is offered through Youth Crossroads when appropriate.
Violence Prevention Education
Educational sessions are available to schools, sports teams, community agencies, and more
Project Peace staff can also offer support to these groups following community violence events
All services are trauma-informed and available in English and Spanish
Program Completion: Upon successfully completing our program, participants are connected with other YC programs, including Youth Development and Workforce Development
