Youth.Connections.Academics (YCA)
Since 2009, YC has provided after-school programming to more than 3,000 at-risk middle school students in Berwyn and Cicero. Four days each week, for about 3 hours each day throughout the school year and summer months, YC staff, college interns and community volunteers offer 6-8th grade students opportunities to improve academic performance, social skills and engage in a variety of new arts, culture and recreation activities not available during the regular school day. Last year, 80% of students in the program showed improvement in their reading, math and science and there was a 74% reduction in school disciplinary interventions.
