Workforce Development Becomes More Comprehensive

Youth Crossroads’ Workforce Development Program is introducing a much more comprehensive program starting this September, featuring a 16-week session that will include case managers and professional development activities. The new program will offer two six-week cohorts in coding, journalism, arts management, robotics, and nail tech, as well as workshops on interview training, resume building, and other employment readiness activities. Students will meet regularly with a case manager who will help students find jobs or more advanced training.

WDP students will also be able to take introductory job training in community health work, including a school mental health cohort and nutrition advocacy cohort taught by staff from University of Illinois Chicago’s CHW Connect and University of Illinois Extension Program. There will also be a Career Mash-up cohort that offers an introduction to careers in investing (Prudential), real estate (Realty of Chicago), and cooking (Oui Chef). Additionally, a cohort on non-profit management will give students an opportunity to create their own nonprofit, and serve on Youth Crossroads new Student Board.
