YC Counseling Staff Receive Peace Circle Training

Youth Crossroads’ clinical staff received training this month to run Peace Circles to help address violence in our community. The training, which was provided by the Gros Institute for Dialogue, Justice, and Social Action, focused on restorative justice practices that are designed to decrease crime and aggression by repairing relationships between people in communities. Peace Circles are rooted in indigenous practices that promote reflection, deep listening, shared values, and egalitarian relationships, which free participants to enter into storytelling and holistic healing.

The 5 R’s of Restorative Justice – Relationship, Respect, Responsibility, Repair, Reintegration – help individuals of all ages communicate through tough issues to build connection and encourage value-based action. The training was led by KC Crino and Beka Flanagan from Lewis University and the Gros Institute. Thanks also go to Dr. Christine Billups who helped make the training possible.
