Meet Youth Crossroads’ Gun Violence Prevention Team

While Youth Crossroads counseling and youth development staff have been on the frontlines of the gun violence epidemic since the start of the pandemic, we are now working to address the underlying issues of gun violence in a more targeted and systematic way.

While Youth Crossroads counseling and youth developmOur Gun Violence Prevention Team has been busy working on curriculum which they will use to run a group with students attending summer school at the Morton Alternative High School, which will then move to other schools in the fall. The approach acknowledges that many youth are unaware of the skills and resources available to them that can help them succeed in a healthy, pro-social manner. The curriculum, along with other topics, takes a look at healthy decision making, communication skills, goal setting, and resource sharing & advocacy. Youth Leadership Program Students Take Social Justice/ Service Trip to Atlanta in June

Eighteen students in YC’s Youth Leadership Program are heading to Atlanta this June for a service/social justice trip to the heart of the Civil Rights Movement. The students will visit the Atlanta Food Bank Community, where they will learn about and help address the food/homelessness crisis in America. They will also spend time cleaning up Atlanta’s historic Piedmont Park. Students will also experience four museums and the aquarium which will be both educational and fun.

Cicero Community Collaborative Launches New Website/Gets Grant

The Cicero Community Collaborative was awarded a $10,000 grant from Exelon/ComEd to support general operations. The grant recognizes CCC’s commitment to a more equitable and clean energy future. The CCC is also scheduled to launch their new website on May 30 to better tell the organization’s story and commitment for building a better Cicero from the ground up.

Paul M. Angell Family Foundation Awards Youth Crossroads $75,000

The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation has awarded Youth Crossroads a $75,000 grant to support general operations. General operations support is crucial for helping us build our organizational capacity to produce impactful programs and services. In particular, this support makes it possible for us to recruit, train, and retain the best staff to serve our community, as well as maintain our spaces.

Youth Leadership Program Awards OSA Scholarships to 4 High School Seniors

Casey Nussbaum, Tamara Saucedo, and Jose Flores were selected to receive the 2023 “One Step Ahead”(OSA) scholarship. The OSA scholarship is awarded to seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and commitment to community service throughout the year. The students were selected based off their application for the scholarship and their impact in the Youth Leadership Program. Each recipient received $2,000 for college cost
